Gympie and Maryborough First to Experience New Training Technology

Another Bulls Masters tour but this one had a few firsts. It had been a while since the Bulls Masters had taken a full-team to the Wide Bay/Burdekin Region (outside of Bundaberg) but the timing was right with the elite Regional T20 “Bendigo Bank Gympie Premier League” tournament in full-swing. The tournament has attracted some of the elite Regional and QLD Premier Cricket talent for the three week event so they would surely put up a strong team for the all-stars game.

First things first, Joe Dawes and Nathan Reardon headed to Maryborough with the shiny new toy, called the “Road Show”, which is a trailer equiped with screens and technology to give real-time feedback during the clinics. The “Road Show” can capture visual data, such as run-ups, actions, bowling speeds, running between the wicket speed, all delivered with feedback from elite coaches to make it the best experience that any young student of the game could hope for.

After that, Dawes and Reardon were joined by the touring party which included Sam Heazlett, Sam Geyer, Max Bryant, Michael Philipson, Steve Paulsen, Gavin Fitness, Bryce Street and Josh Brown to go to some of the schools in Gympie such as Gympie Central State School, St Patricks, Gympie East and Gympie West State Schools.

The next day before the big Bulls Masters game, we held the “Road Show” again in Gympie which was well attended by the young cricket enthusiasts, eager to find out their speed and any tips to help with their action, batting and fielding.

The game was the main event tough, and a strong Bulls Masters side took on a very strong Bendigo Bank Gympie Premier League all-stars side. With the Bulls Masters batting first, it looked like an upset was on the cards after Big Bash stars, Josh Brown and Max Bryant went cheaply. Bryce Street was caught to make it three down for not much when Sam Geyer came in to join Sam Heazlett… and they revived the innings spectacularly! Heazlett smashed the ball to all ends of the field, finishing not-out on 138 runs from just 63 balls. Geyer did his part too, scoring 50* to help set an imposing run chase of 202 for victory.

Josh Brown was the early wicket-taker, and a classic catch on the boundary by Michael Philipson helped to stiffle the Gympie team and limit their final toal to 162.
